This funding is intended to be used to provide financial support to students aged 16 to 19 to continue with their education and attend the School, when their domestic circumstances might otherwise make their attendance difficult. The money is intended to help with various aspects of participation, for example:
• providing assistance with cost of travel to and from school;
• contributing to the cost of school uniform;
• the purchase of learning resources such as books and equipment;
• participation in curriculum trips;
• attendance at university open days or interviews.
Details of potential eligibility for this money can be obtained in confidence from the School’s Finance Office.
In 2020/21 the amount available for discretionary distribution from the 16-19 Bursary Fund was £11,652.75.
Awards were made to 16 students with the largest sums being allocated to cover the costs of travel to and from School throughout the school year. However, money was also distributed to one or more individuals to pay for; items of school uniform, the purchase of learning resources such as books and revision guides, school meals, provision of food vouchers during periods of closure and attendance at university open days and interviews.
Due to the School closures experienced during the academic year the level of financial support required was lower than expected which resulted in a balance of funding outstanding. The money which has not been distributed from the allocation in 2020/21 has been ring fenced and carried forward to supplement the amount available for allocation in 2021/22.
